  51. This product is designed to work optimally on the MAC OS and WINDOWS 95.  Since 
  52. WINDOWS 3.1 is an 8-bit operating system, video and animations may be sluggish. On low-end 3.1
  53. machines, turn off background music (using the sound button window) to improve performance.

  80. USER TIPS
  81. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  82. 1. Instructions in the product are written on screen and voiced, but don't be afraid to 
  83. move your mouse around to explore.
  84.  
  85. 2. On screens where more than one typing field occurs, you can either move your 
  86. mouse and cursor to the appropriate field, or you can use your tab key to tab to each 
  87. active field.
  88.  
  89. 3. On screens with video segments, clicking on the video with your mouse will play 
  90. the video again.
  91.  
  92. 4. You are given the option to print in several locations in the product. Upon exiting 
  93. the program you will also have the option to print all of your input data or save it to 
  94. a text file; notepad data is saved throughout. The notepad is a kind of running journal
  95. that exists in a window that can be moved around the screen and opened and closed
  96. at the user's discretion without losing entries.

  98. 5. The sound control is in a window that can be moved around the screen; just grab the
  99. bar at the top of the control window with the mouse and move it. It can be left open
  100. at the menu level and travel through the activities with you for easy sound control. 
  101. The background music can be turned on and off within this sound controller as well.

  104. OPTIMIZING PERFORMANCE

  106. There are many things you can do to optimize the performance of The Alliance CD. 
  107. Consider the following list of options:
  108.  
  109. 1. Make sure that your monitor’s resolution is set to 256 colors.
  110.  
  111. 2. Make sure that you have a current, functional version of QuickTime or QuickTime 
  112. for Windows. Otherwise video and animations will not work. On the Macintosh be sure 
  113. that QuickTime has not been disabled in your Extensions Manager.
  114.  
  115. 3. If you are running other applications in the background—no matter how simple or 
  116. complex the application—performance may suffer.  Quit all applications other than 
  117. The Alliance CD.
  118.  
  119. 4. If you are on a network or on the Internet, your chances of experiencing freezes, 
  120. crashes, and poor video/audio are much greater than if you are not.
  121.  
  122. 5. If you have been running any memory-intensive applications prior to running 
  123. The Alliance CD, restart your machine before running the program.
  124.  
  125. 6. If the total memory requirement of your system software and this program 
  126. approaches the limits of your machine’s total RAM, performance will suffer. 
  127. Consider upgrading your machine’s memory.

  129. 7.  On the Macintosh try turning off your computer’s Virtual Memory.
